After a long wait, and tons of reformatting, editing and just general stress (if you think publishing a book is easy, you have no idea) it is here!
First I wanted to thank my Mom and Dad for the many years of stressing the importance of reading. If it wasn't for my mother pushing me toward books and my dad allowing me to spend so much time in my room reading as a kid, I may not have grown to appreciate the many blessings books have brought me. From an early age they were my escape, my way of allowing myself to forget my fears and embrace my own life. My first favorite book, "Otherwise known as Sheila the Great" by Judy Blume has stuck with me for so many years. I still have a copy of this book and it reminds me of my childhood.
To my Aunt Sandra: If it wasn't for her trips to the library, I never would have grown to love books the way that I did. She is an amazing friend and I thank her every day for showing me books and also love.
To my sister: Niki has been my toughest critic, but bestest sister a girl could have. She's pushed me to greatness and takes time to remind me that "the journey of a thousand miles begins with one step."
To Candice: It's amazing how distance and time can bring together two people and make them the most awesome friends a girl could have. She's been there throughout my freak out moments when I lost my mojo to write and she's been there to proof, edit, be honest and tell me when my writing needs help. She is very talented herself and I hope one day she'll embrace that creativity in her own way.
To Jessie: This girl is amazing. The things that she can do with words astounds me and I cannot believe I lucked out to have such an awesome friend. She will always have a place in my heart of creativity.
To Katie: My best friend of over 20 years has always shown me support and love. She's been there to help me in many a hard times and always comes to the rescue when I need her. I would be lost without her. She's my "friend soul mate."
To my children Brandon, Rachel and Greta: I hope you understand how much you mean to me. You three are the reason I was able to write this book. When I saw Brandon's eyes light up when he first learned to read and started embracing the love of books, I nearly cried. He was a spitting image of me and I love to see his enthusiasm when he reads. Rachel is my spitfire and she pushed me to write, joking that anytime I write, it rains. I think those are tears of happiness from the people who aren't with us anymore. Greta always wants you to know what's going on and will tell you at any moment. The three of them are very smart kids and I love them more than words could ever write.
Finally: To Michael: Words cannot express the love that I have for you. You have made my life so much fun and enjoyable. You are a reason to get up in the morning and go to bed at night. I love you so much and I cannot believe that we did it! You and I have made it through so much and I love you for supporting me through this endeavor and never once thinking it was foolish. I love you with all my heart.
And to everyone else: Thank you for your support, kind words and love. Without you, none of this would have been possible. May your dreams never live in the Shadows of what you desire most in life.
Elicia.
